🚀 Big news from Barcelona. Last Thursday, the PYRAH2 Project consortium officially kicked off a new European innovation project – funded by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership – addressing Europe’s urgent need for affordable renewable hydrogen and sustainable carbon products.
PYRAH2 brings together 12 partners from Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Italy, Luxembourg, and France, covering the full value chain from advanced gasification and bioprocesses to plasma technologies and industrial end-users.
The project will convert biogenic and non-recyclable waste into high-purity hydrogen and solid carbon through a 4-step integrated process:
🔥 Autothermal gasification and syngas conditioning
🦠 Syngas biomethanation
🌱 CO₂ separation
⚡ Plasma-assisted methane pyrolysis
Over the next 48 months, the consortium will design, build, and operate a demonstration plant to support Europe’s energy sovereignty, reduce landfill waste, and enable high-value carbon applications in sectors such as tyres and steel. AristEng Sarl will lead the process design, pilot development and holistic assessment.
The kick-off meeting in Barcelona was an opportunity for partners to align on vision, roadmap, and immediate next steps, ensuring a solid foundation for the work ahead.
